In the centre of Paris on the banks of the Seine, opposite the Tuileries Gardens, the museum was installed in the former Orsay railway station, built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900. The museum holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1915, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography. The museum boasts the best collection of Impressionist and post-impressionist paintings in the world. by painters such as Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin and Van Gogh.

The Catacombs of Paris have been created at the end of the 18th century. In the 1800’s in Paris the cemeteries were overflowing with dead bodies and had become the origin of infection for all the inhabitants. After multiple complaints, the Council of State, by decision of November 9, 1785, pronounced the removal. Beneath the streets were old stone quarries where they had mined stone to build the houses of Paris. So they decided to dig up the overflowing cemeteries and take the bones down into the caverns under the streets and create ossuaries of the the thousands of bones.

The Eiffel Tower is one of the tallest structure in the world. The tower rises 300 meters tall (984 ft). The Eiffel Tower was built for the World Exhibition in 1889, held in celebration of the French Revolution in 1789. It remained the tallest in the world for 41 years until 1930, when the Chrysler Building was built in New York. There were about 1710 steps in the Eiffel Tower during 1889, after it was constructed. Today, there are about 1665 steps in the monument.
