Salvation Mountain is a literal man-made mountain 28 years in the making, covered in half a million gallons of latex paint. What started as a small monument made of dirt and painted cement became, over time, a sprawling adobe and hay-bale mountain complex, with peripheral structures made of telephone poles, tires, and car windows, as well as art cars and sculptures. The mountain was created by Leonard Knight after his hot air balloon failed in this bleak patch of desert near the Salton Sea. God, Knight knew, wanted him to continue spreading his message of love in this hostile environment. I strongly encourage anyone who dares to make the pilgrimage to the Salton Sea to stop by and soak in the glorious vibes of Salvation Mountain.

The Bald Eagle Mountain Megatransect is a 26+ mile/hike and trail run event staged in Central Pennsylvania. The outstandingly beautiful course offers unique geologic features, such as an unrelenting boulder field of white Tuscarora sandstone. Cliffs line a scenic gorge to heights of 300 feet that sink from the Chestnut flat plateau. Trails run along miles of streams and brooks with multiple stream crossings and small waterfalls.

The small town of Mulanje in the south of Malawi is the centre of Malawi’s tea growing industry. The main attraction in the town is Mount Mulanje. Mulanje is a spectacular 650km2 granite inselberg that rises in dramatic isolation above the Phalombe Plains southeast of Blantyre. The massif consists of a plateau of rolling grassland set at an average elevation of 2,000m, but this is incised by several thickly wooded ravines, and studded with 20 peaks of 2,500m or higher, including Sapitwa, the highest point in central Africa at 3,002m. The structure and altitude of the mountain have led to the development of a unique climate for the area, which is charaterised by high rainfalls from November to April. This climate favours the development of unique ecology of rare and endemic life forms which contribute to the massif’s high biodiversity. The high rainfall, deep ravine and dense vegetation have favoured the birth of many rivers which supply reliable clean water to thousands of households in the surrounding plains.

Everest is the highest mountain in the world, 29,035 feet (8,850m) above sea level. Mount Everest are still growing higher, at a rate of about 2.4 in (6.1cm) per year, couse the Indian Tectonic Plate slides north under the Eurasian Plate. It is located on the border of Nepal and Tibet. In July, temperatures can get as high as nearly zero degrees Fahrenheit (about -18 Celsius). In January, temperatures drop to as low as -76°F (-60°C).

The Tour debutant Peter Sagan is one of favourites for absolute victory at Tour de France 2012. The Liquigas rider celebrate his first stage by first place. Peter is a Slovak professional road bicycle racer for UCI ProTour team Liquigas-Cannondale. Sagan started to ride bikes at the age of nine when he joined a small local club in his home town. He has a past as a biker and cross country cyclist, disciplines in which he has had major success at both European and World level. In 2009, Sagan joined the road cycling circuit.

Atacama desert, a 15 million years old desert, located in south America stretches over 1000 kilometers. Located between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean, rises the most arid desert in the world. The Atacama desert is so dry that mountains of height 6,885 m have no glaciers, making them unique in the world. Studies have shown that the Atacama desert received no appreciable rainfall between 1570 and 1971, and some ancient riverbeds appear to have been dry for 12,000 years. The place is pretty cold despite being the driest desert and the temperature ranges between 0°C to 25°C.
