Mexico City is one of the largest, most polluted and agresive urban environments in the planet. The Library is located in a building from the late eighteenth century, in the historic center of the city, The buildings and gardens generate a new pole of urban ecological regeneration that expands over a densely populated area. The Biblioteca Vasconcelos, designed by Alberto Kalach, is a recent addition to the urban landscape and is a dual purpose facility serving as both a public library and a botanical garden. The library offers all readers a collection of over 580,000 books, collections of multimedia material, children’s books, books in Braille and music. All distributed over more than 40,000 linear meters of pendant shelf steel. It is spread on 38,000 square meters.
