The African, or Cape, buffalo is a member of the so-called “Big Five” group of animals, with the elephant, rhino, lion and leopard, popular trophies for hunters. There are approximately 900,000 Cape buffalo across sub-Saharan and South Africa.

Adult weight: 300-900 kg
Reproduction and Development
Gestation period: 340 days.
Litter size: 1, rarely 2.
Weaning: Around 6 months.
Sexual maturity: 3.5-5 years.
Life span: Typically 18-20, up to 29 in captivity.
