London Olympics 2012 – Cable Car over Thames

Emirates Air Line is a gondola lift cable car link across the River Thames in London. From North Greenwich to the Royal Docks, opened on the 28 June 2012. One way ticket costs £3.60 on an Oyster card or £16 for 10 journeys. The Thames cable car operates from 7am-9pm Monday to Friday, 8am-9pm Saturday and 9am-9pm Sunday. Drive takes five minutes. The cable cars rise almost 300 feet. The cable car has the capacity to carry up to 2,500 people an hour in each direction, in one of 34 cabins. Passengers get a view of City, Canary Wharf, historic Greenwich, the Thames Barrier and the Olympic Park.

The Eye stands a whopping 135 metres high on the South Bank between Waterloo and Westminster Bridges, right opposite Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament and provides stunning views over central London and beyond. You can get fantastic views of most of London, especially the Houses of Parliament, follow St. James Park as it sweeps down to Buckingham Palace and the clock tower of Big Ben.
