Cumberland Water Gap in Appalachian Mountains

The Cumberland Gap was discovered in 1750 by Dr. Thomas Walker, a Virginia physician and explorer. This mountain gap is famous in American history for its role as one key passageway through the lower central Appalachians. The gap is located where current-day states of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia meet.
