The Church of the Holy Wisdom, known as Hagia Sophia is a former Byzantine church and former Ottoman mosque in Istanbul. Now a museum, Hagia Sophia is universally acknowledged as one of the great buildings of the world. It contains two floors centered on a giant nave that has a great dome ceiling, along with smaller domes, towering above. Its wide, flat dome was a daring engineering feat in the 6th century, and architects still marvel at the building’s many innovations. It is the most-visited site in Turkey (3.57 million visitors in 2014).

Share/Bookmark

Cappadocia is the historic area with unique rock site located in the center of the Anatolian Region of Turkey. Thies region is a result of the vulcanic eruptions occurred in Erciyes, Hasandag and Gulludag, in the region was formed a large tableland from the vulcanic tufas and together with the erosion of the Kizilirmak river and wind over ten thausands of years there appeared the chimney rocks which are a wonder of the nature. Turkish heritage is located in Goreme – a village in the heart of Cappadocia. Long, long ago Cappadocia was inhabited by Christians who also carved thousands of cave churches, chapels and monasteries out of the rock. Many of these churches were decorated with frescoes of medieval saints whose ghostly images still gaze down from the walls. In the 21st century these ancient churches make some of the most remarkable sights for visitors. Goreme and the Cappadocia region is easily accessible from all parts of Turkey.

Sunset in Pamukkale Travertine Terraces, Turkey

Share/Bookmark

Pamukkale is a natural phenomena and gift of Mother Nature also known as the Cotton Castles. It is a natural site and a tourist attraction in south-western Turkey in the Denizli Province. It is famous for its hot springs and travertines, terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water. The stunning white calcium pools are wonderful and amazing. At 525 feet high Pamukkale is really a big hill whose stark white cap calls to mind an alpine mountain as misplaced in the surrounding green valley. The illusion of snow is actually travertine, a type of limestone created by a rapid precipitation of calcium bicarbonate originating from hot springs.
