Chinese company Techrules has revealed the Ren RS turbine range-extender EV supercar. The Techrules Ren RS uses patented TREV technology (turbine-recharging electric vehicle) that effectively creates a very efficient and powerful range-extending system. It describes the TREV system as such: “Air drawn into the micro turbine is passed through a heat exchanger where heat from the exhaust air is transferred to the cold intake air, and compressed before it is ignited. The twin turbine, six-motor setup is the most extreme combo available from Techrules, but potential buyers can get less extreme versions with just a single turbine and four electric motors (640kW/1560Nm). The Ren had a three-seat configuration, with a center-mounted driver’s seat up front flanked by two set-back passenger seats. The Techrules books are open for orders, and the company said the cars will be delivered within two years to an “exclusive band of customers.”

The ultra-quick and ultra-expensive Porsche 918 Spyder is a range-topping gasoline-electric hybrid super car. The 918\’s main source of power is a race-inspired 4.6-liter V8 engine that churns out 608 horsepower at 8,600 rpms and 390 lb-ft. of torque at 6,600 rpms. A 154-horsepower hybrid module installed on the rear axle and a 127-horsepower electric motor located on the front axle are both powered by the aforementioned lithium-ion battery pack. Liquid-cooled, the pack can be fully charged in four hours when plugged into a 230-volt German-spec household outlet, or in 25 minutes using Porsche’s Speed Charging Station.

The 2013 GT-R is a 2-door, 4-passenger sports car, available in two trims, the Premium and the Black Edition. Upon introduction, both trims are equipped with a standard 3.8-liter, V6, 545-horsepower, turbo engine that achieves 16-mpg in the city and 23-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The GT-R is already widely considered as one of the best handling vehicles on the market. This is Motor Trend\’s Car of the Year and you can own it for about $95K.

The Lotus company has released the first details about the 2014 Elite. The Elite is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine with 620 PS (456 kW / 612 hp) and 720 Nm (531 Nm) of torque. Lotus expects the 1,650kg (3,638 lb) car will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 to 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 315 km/h (196 mph). The Elite will also be offered as a hybrid. The company says the car will have a hybrid gearbox (with integrated electric motors) and a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). The Elite go on sale in the spring of 2014, the car has a tentative base price of £115,000 (178,000 USD).

The BMW Concept i3 is the first premium electric plug-in city car, while the i8 Concept is a hybrid plug-in and combustion engine sports car. BMW demonstrates how the future of sustainable and yet dynamic mobility might look. The i8 is based on the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept from 2009. i8 combines the electric drive system from the BMW i3 Concept with the innovative plug-in hybrid concept. It has a high-performance three-cylinder combustion engine which produces 164kW/220 hp and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) at its rear.
