World War Two in Europe began on 3rd September 1939, when the Prime Minister of Britain, Neville Chamberlain, declared war on Germany. The War ended in the Summer of 1945. World War II was the most destructive conflict in history. It cost more money, damaged more property, killed more people, and caused more far-reaching changes than any other war in history. Between 1939 and 1945, the Allies dropped 3.4 million tons of bombs, which averaged to 27,700 tons per month. It is estimated that 50 million people lost their lives during World War 2.

The Batu Caves are located thirteen kilometers north of the capital city Kuala Lumpur. Caves are one of the most important Hindu religious sites outside of India. Every year hundreds of thousands of Hindu devotees come to climb the grueling 272 steps up to the caverns. The main Batu Cave is known as the Temple Cave or Cathedral Cave. The cave serves as a Hindu Temple devoted to Lord Muragan whose 42 meter high gold statue stands guard outside.

Lighthouses came into existence because ships could not see the rocks and other dangers in the water. A lighthouse is a building or other type of construction designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses or, in older times, from a fire and used as an aid to navigation. The most widely used materials are masonry, brick, concrete and steel. The first known lighthouse, the Pharos of Alexandria, Egypt, was completed about 280 B.C. It stood more than 350 feet tall until an earthquake destroyed it in the 1300s.

Barack H. Obama is the 44th President of the United States. President Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961. He is child of a father from Kenya and a mother from Kansas. He was raised with help from his grandfather, who served in Patton’s army, and his grandmother, who worked her way up from the secretarial pool to middle management at a bank. Barack Obama was elected president on Nov. 4, 2008, becoming the first African-American to claim the highest office in the land, an improbable candidate fulfilling a once-impossible dream. He is the first president elected from Chicago.

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese art that seeks the balance of vital energies in the environment. Traditionally, feng shui has been used to determine the best place to live. Scuba diving is form of underwater swimming using SCUBA. Using a cylinder of compressed air to breathe but sometimes other gases. Scuba divers obtain greater freedom and they can stay underwater much longer than would be possible by just holding their own breath. What does it SCUBA mean ? SCUBA – originally being an acronym for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. For safe diving must each diver consider whether gear works well for his needs and the conditions he expects to dive.

Hedda Morrison was a tremendous resource for images from the latter part of the Republican China years, photographing extensively with a 2 1/4 Rolleiflex Twin Lens (my personal roll film favorite) during her 13 year stay in China (from 1933 – 1946). Coincidentally, she then married into the family of and bears the name of another very famous China photographer; she married George Ernest Morrison\’s son, Alastair in 1946. Besides photography in China, she was also known for a large body of image work in Malaysia and Australia (where she died in 1991). Her husband, generously donated her life\’s work, divided between Harvard University and Australia\’s Power House Museum of Science & Design. All images were found on Harvard Universitys VIA (Visual Information Access) Search Engine. Minor spot and scratch touch up, contrast and tonal adjustments in an almost technically perfect image. Sepia added and then a false duotone.
