Padaung synonym Kayan is a subgroup Red Karen people and they all are a part of Karen people. The Padaung tribe from the border region of Burma and Thailand, are best known for the neck rings worn by the women of this people. The heavy weight of the brass rings does not stretch the neck, but it compresses the body. If they removed rings the head would collapse. Rings are placed around the neck of the girl child from the age of five, continuing until she is twenty. By this time the woman will be wearing approximately twenty-three rings weighing up to fifteen pounds in total. The ladies are absolutely stunning with their long necks. After all, the rings around their necks are for beauty.
