Vermilion Cliffs National Monument is located on the Colorado Plateau in northern Arizona. It includes the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. The Monument borders Kaibab National Forest to the west and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area to the east. The 3,000-foot escarpment of the Vermilion Cliffs reveals seven major geologic formations in layer-cake fashion. This remote, unspoiled 294,000-acre national monument is a geologic treasure of towering cliffs, deep canyons, and spectacular sandstone formations.

The Coyote Buttes contain some of the most intricate and beautifully colored rock formations on the planet. The area is divided into two parts, the North Coyote Buttes and the South Coyote Buttes. The Wave is located in the Coyote Buttes North area of the Arizona Strip. This remarkable sculptured sandstone sits in the shadow of the Coyote Buttes. The Wave is best photographed midday so as to minimize the extensive shadows, the other areas listed above are best photographed mid-late afternoon.

Grand Canyon is about 200 miles long, about a mile deep gash in the earth. It is located in the northwest corner of Arizona. It was formed during 6 million years of geological activity and erosion by the Colorado River. Author did not manipulate images in any way except to boost the color saturation a bit and to try to sharpen it. Photos was taken in the very early morning or late evening hours when you could capture some stunning images.
