There are more than 2,900 species of snakes spread worldwide, of which about 600 species are known to be poisonous. Inland Taipan is the world’s most venomous land snake. Its bite causes nearly certain death. A few mg of Inland Taipan’s venom is enough to kill over 100 people or 250,000 mice. The venom of a taipan is 200-400 times more toxic than most rattlesnakes and 50 times as toxic as a cobra It has a neurotoxic venom that can kill an adult human in 45 minutes. Snakes are not known to be particularly aggressive, but docile. They will strike if provoked.

Taipans are divided into five sub-species:
Western or Inland Taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus)
Papuan Taipan (Oxyuranus s. canni)
Common or Coastal Taipan (Oxyuranus scutellatus)
Central Ranges Taipan (Oxyuranus temporalis)

At photos, you can see climbers tackling on the King’s Pathway (El Caminito del Rey) in the Los Gaitanes Gorge, El Chorro, Álora. The walkway is one meter in width, and rises over 100 meters above the river below. The local government closed both entrances of the path after two fatal accidents in 1999 and 2000. Pathway should be reopen in 2014 after three years restoration-plan.

The Varosia is a lingering reminder of the relatively recent year of 1974, when the Turkish invasion took place and this whole area was barricaded off with barbed wire, becoming something of a no-man\’s land.
